EATING DISORDERS IN INSECURE CHILDREN

More recent studies have shown that children who have low self-esteem and confidence levels are more prone to eating disorders like bulimia, anorexia and binge eating, all of which can prove to be fatal if allowed to progress to dangerous stages. It is thus important for parents to do what they can to help prevent if not combat eating disorders at its early stages and know the various eating disorder symptoms that their children may possibly display.

Whatever eating disorder your child may be suffering from, chances are he or she will be displaying any if not all of symptoms common to an eating disorder. Most of these kids will consistently deny what they’ve eaten and how much. They will be excessively conscious about their weight and will constantly feel dissatisfied with the way that they look. These kids will most likely starve themselves by skipping meals, avoiding dessert and drink several glasses of water in order to feel full right before a meal.

Be watchful as well if any of your kids all of a sudden displays a sudden interest in becoming vegetarian, especially if no one in your family actually is vegetarian. They will also become increasingly interested in various diets, and will be counting the calories on food labels.

While being health conscious may actually sound good, remember that this may not actually be normal or even good for kids who, on the average, enjoy ice cream, chips, soda and a host of other junk food. Carefully monitoring your children’s interests and possible display of these eating disorder symptoms can prevent a disaster.
